Please help me with this copy right question.
There’s a piece of art I like. (Red box DnD cover art) If I were to carve that image into a wood panel could I then sell that panel?
I’m a good enough amateur at this that it will be recognizable, but not an exact copy. It would be far from being a laser engraving.
My reasoning why I think I can is a person can take Bruce’s original pieces glue them into a new configuration and sell that new piece as their own. So instead of plaster I’m using wood.
My reasoning as to why I think I can’t do this is that if I were to take that same painting and do a screen printing onto a T-shirt, I’ve change the medium, but it’s still copying. The T-Shirt’s image is too close to the original.
Please share any insights.
