Posts: 44 Apr 9 12 7:17 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : modular, gothic, castle, octagonal Here is my work in progress so far on a modular castle I am making I have made two pieces of wall and I am modifying the octagonal tower to fit in with the design. This is the build so far, I have modified the height of the crossbow slits in the tower and will not have stairs internal. Access to the wall will be thought the first floor of the tower. This is the third piece of wall I am making I have made this with the wall builder mold, the two previous were individual blocks, this seems a much faster way to do it. What are your thoughts on this. I would like to say I took inspiration from Villiam2000's modular castle for the wall design, but I changed it slightly to meet my needs.

At first I was making my wall pieces very similar to yours, but then I realized that I could use a single wall piece and 7 .5" x .25" x .25" pieces at the end of wall pieces and then I only need 2 wall pieces per wall instead of 4 or 4 for a double wide wall.

I do intend to use it wargaming initially then I may build a special base board to set it up permanently when my son is old enough to appreciate it. @JamesT - I considered making it thinner like yours but I can't seem to get the mold flat every time so I want it stronger. Posts: 20 Apr 9 12 12:22 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I hadn't planned on posting pictures until I was a little closer to being done but I do not think that I can resist now. Here they are all together in their partially finished glory. Here is one of the towers in its three pieces. Here is the bottom half of one of the towers with the floor installed. Tower front view. Tower side view with a doorway to the walls. Back view with windows to the court yard. View from inside the courtyard. I made the gateway large enough to fit a single landraider. I know that I still have a lot to do, but it is coming along nicely. I plan on making either 1 or 3 more corner towers so I can either make a completely enclosed castle or a 3 sided castle for 40k. It is definitely getting a whole lot bigger than I (or my wife) expected.

I've been working on a design for a modular castle myself, though I can't seem to just stick with something simple - it keeps getting more and more complicated. I haven't even got past the dry-stack/paper-planning stages though, so you guys are way ahead of me. I'm definitely going with the octagonal towers though, Edsterdoom - they look ace. I was trying to figure out some way to keep the tower separate from the walls, so you could pop the same tower section in along a straight run of wall, or at the corners, or even at the 45 degree angles of the octagon. But I think it's exceeding my design skills http://www.advancedterrain.com

Right now I am still working on fine tuning my casting process. This weekend I hope to build a gateway! I think when I attempt to build a modular castle I will also want to make it so the walls and tower sections can be of different heights. Basically allowing the wall be one story - X stories tall. Still need to figure all of this out and do all the casting though. I have started a blog for my adventures in hirst arts molds. But I think it's exceeding my design skills Thanks for the feedback, initially I was aiming to just have the tower in corners with different ones down the length of the walls, but I reckon it could be done with the second floor sections, and have a choice of them depending where it fits in the castle as to how many doors are on it to access different walls. I was considering making the piece so the join vertically as well but it may be easier to make a few different second floors instead. Posts: 20 Jun 24 12 2:36 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It has been a little while since I have done anything with this but I got back to it with a frenzy yesterday. I think this is about all that I am going to make. It is taking up way too much space as is. I think it is going to have to be a board edge piece. With the way I have it set up right now it is about 42" wide or just over meter in width for everyone who is fortunate enough to live somewhere with a rational system of measurement.

I haven't done much more on mine recent due to the birth of a second son ( a great excuse for hirst arts stuff) I have been keeping a eye on the forum so when the evenings free up a bit I may make some more progress on the castle.
