So, despite needing a good half-dozen other molds to really do all I want to do with fantasy, I wanted to also dip into sci-fi. After way too much deliberation, I chose the flat floor tiles, the station builder, and industrial accessories (326), with the intent of probably getting the starship wall builder and machinery builder (327) in two weeks. I've read a lot of the various tips and tricks and painting guides, but I am looking for additional advice.
My intent is to use these bits mostly for ruined cityscapes and tunnel systems in a post-atomic game (Specifically, "Earth Delta", the D&D 4e-based system I've been working on ever since it was announced the "official" 4e Gamma World would have collectible cards. ) So I am thinking of using the station builder and floor tiles to do "modular dungeon" style pieces, decorated with bits from the industrial accessories, either as movable "props" or bits glued to the walls for more texture and detail. What I'd like is some advice on color mixes and "aging" effects. The neon green look for the machinery really doesn't fit my concept; I want stuff that's more basic grey, with suitable rust and corrosion. For walls, I figure they should start out mostly white, but be likewise dirty and worn with time.
Any advice on color pallettes, building tips, or photos of similar work would be appreciated. My access to crafting gear beyond the basics is limited; no buzzsaws, diamond tipped drills, or industrial lasers.
