WIP two new peasant houses FINISH |
Lead | |
|
Just a small wip update on the two peasant houses for Andadas. I still have to do some painting and do some furniture or something small to the insides of
both.

I can't tell because of the angle of the photos, but does the one on the left have a sloping roof?

The thatch on the left doesn't look that realistic compared to the thatching I've seen- but then again, my experience with thatched roofs is very
limited. The structure of both looks really good.
Can Hirstopian peasants afford windows, though? I'm pretty sure that simply having windows in a house used to incur high taxes in some parts of Europe and the colonial Americas. Something to do with glass being intentionally reserved for the nobles and upper classes, and/or a window being called a "wind's eye" that would let in cold drafts in the winter. |

I think they all had windows but most didn't have glass in them. That is why they had shutters were for to keep the weather out. As far as the thatch goes
it is my first try at making a thatch roof. I thought it looked pretty good myself.

Nice Wolfie. What did you use for your thatch? You're right about the windows - shutters or heavy drapes were used to block the wind and cold - glass being
very expensive, but then this is a fantasy world - right? Who says that the peasants haven't found a way to get glass cheaply. Oh and the other thing they
used was oiled skins for windows - very thin, like parchment.Allowed some light to come in that way.

I think the thatch looks good Wolfen.
What is the white facia on the front edge of the roofing? It looks out of place, but I can't tell if it is just unpainted wood (and thus won't look out of place when painted). Windows were common... just not glass. Shutters, parchment, furs, etc were all used to block out wind / air, etc. Looking good to me Kent Doing Hirst Arts block in Life Size blocks... |

Very cool.... I like the different chimney (pipe) and fireplace. The bunkbeds next to it scream "I want to stay warm during the cold night". good job
