Hello everyone!
I'm working on plans to fill out the fieldstone line a bit. I'm currently working on a new fieldstone mold project but I'll keep the details to myself until I can work the rest of the kinks out.
However, I am also considering making the following molds while I'm in "fieldstone" mode.
1. Fieldstone ruined tower. This would provide round top arches and ruined sections for the 4" and 6" diameters of round towers. In my opinion, an 8" tower in fieldstone is just too large to be usable by most hobbyists. I might consider the 3" diameter but I don't know how usable it would be either. The layout for this ruined tower should be quite different than from mold #65. At this point I have no idea what the ruined tower should look like.
2. A fieldstone octagon tower. This would be very similar to mold 63 only in fieldstone. However, I would add the small brick that allows the diameter of the floor to be expanded easily (without having to sand the floor tiles to fit). I'm not sure who posted the solution to that.
3. An "odds and ends" mold. This one would be mostly for collectors who have wanted small bits. This would not be a mold for a complete project, but would instead be for extra parts. Some suggestions for this mold have been:
a) Secret door blocks
b) Splay bases for straight and/or round towers
c) Pointed crellenations for straight walls to match the round towers
d) Decorative corner blocks to give a finishing edge to fieldstone corners
The splay bases would almost need to be a mold on their own, especially if people wanted to flair out the bottom of the existing round towers. I really don't know how much this would add to the existing towers compared to the difficulty in using these types of pieces. I would think a 60 degree angle would be better than a 45 degree angle.
Anyway, please post your suggestions and thought on this while I'm starting my first fieldstone carvings this week end. I have to pull out the old blocks and try to match the texture exactly (it's been a while).
Thanks,
Bruce Hirst
