Cliff, as a tattoo artist I always had requests to do somebody else's art as a tattoo on somebody elses body. I always have been under the impression that as long as you change at LEAST 20% of it into something other than original, then it becomes an original work of art. Again, this is kind of a gray area, but most of the time it seems to workout just fine. A disclaimer stating that the new piece is INSPIRED by xxxxxx usually serves to vacate any problems, after all, at that point it becomes Your interpretation of another work of art, not a copy of said work.
