Thanks Syrio!  Yes, you are correct, it is a joint compound of sorts.  It is called "Crackshot Spackle" made by DAP.  I just used my fingers to apply and spread it out.  I then gently patted it with my finger to make tiny peaks all over the wall.  After it started to dry a little bit, I brushed my finger back and forth to sort of knock down the peaks and smooth it out a little bit.  Some parts of the walls were done different ways, but that is the primary technique I settled on.

I ran "Traps and Treasure" at Fields of Honor again this past weekend using the Crescent Moon.  It has been holding up very well over the past couple years being carted around to conventions.  The Die-Keen dental plaster is really tough and I'm glad I picked it over a softer material.  The half timber walls also hold up very well, but they are not put under the stress that the interlocking bricks along the seams do.

Here is a photo from the convention showing the six players who filled the sign-up sheet to the maximum.  Three of them had played in previous years and were back for more.
