For this project I used the following molds:
70 - Fieldstone Wall
701 - Fieldstone Basic Block
71 - Fieldstone Accessories
75 - Ruined Fieldstone
85 - Cavern Accessories
203 - Cracked Floor Tiles
206 - Worn Floor Tile
220 - Wooden Plank
Thanks to a local shop I was able to use Merlin's Magic plaster. Using the wet water method to cast the parts there was virtually no problems with bubbles in the plaster.
All of the tiles are built on a 4" square piece of 1/8" MDF.
I tried to add a little detail to each of the tiles to make them more visually interesting. The Cavern Accessories mold (#85) really helped with that. I used the Wooden Plank mold (#220) to make the stairs, ladder, and planks in the Tunnel Exit, Secure Exit, and Tile 22.
The secret door on Tile #12 was made by drilling through the "door" blocks and into the top block and floor with a Dremel tool and inserting a section of BBQ skewer. The skull on the floor acts as a door stop to keep the closed door flush with the wall.
For the Dire Chamber tiles I decided to use an Aztec/Mayan theme. The
Catacombs of Paris
were my inspiration for the Horrid Chamber tiles. They were painted Black, Medium Grey, and White to give them extreme contrast.
In addition to flat exterior house paint I used
Doc O'Brien's Weathering Powders
to add some grime and highlights to the tiles.
The skeletons and skulls came from
Secret Weapon Miniatures
.
Cobwebs were made with Iron-on Hemming Tape (thanks to
Aberoth's great site!
).
The black circular scorch mark on the floor of each tile is used in the game to indicate where a monster figure should be placed. I made these using black weathering powder and then used a pencil eraser to remove some of the powder to get the desired shape.
If you have any other questions or comments, just shoot!
