How did you ensure that each block was sanded parallel to the front surface? Do you use a jig to hold the blocks or are you doing it by hand? I use a disc sander, but for sanding to a precise angle rather than shaving the whole block. For me, more often than not I sand slightly unevenly when using the disc sander for that purpose on a single block. Doing a larger panel is easier though.

This model uses sandpaper rather than cutters -- the paper will clog and you'll have to clean it, just like when sanding by hand. I'd be tempted to get one if the shipping to Oz wasn't the same as the cost of the machine itself.
