Details, details...
Well, the 3rd floor construction is finished with all half-timber walls glued into place. Little things were found to be slightly off. I tried to force the balsa floors into the 3rd floor front sections resulting in breaking apart a few wall sections. Once things get glued into place it is all quite sturdy, but before it gets attached to the main board it is a little fragile...
There is, actually, one part left to do on this floor - the little corner roof section is still under construction. The foam board structure is complete and just needs some finishing touches of paint plus some timbers.
Here it is all ready to have the slate tiles added:
Here are a couple shots of the various sections glued into place.
Hm...that one turned out a bit dark...
The front is a little better:
Although gluing things together took a little longer than expected, most of my time this week was spent on the 'details'. The stairs, which were initially planned to be a spiral staircase, needed to be put in before gluing things all together so time was put into that. Here are some photos of how that turned out:
Railing was just added as the still drying glue shows:
The angled staircase other benefits besides just being a whole lot easier to build than a spiral. It is far more playable since the spiral would have taken up most of the little room and rendered it unplayable. The angled staircase can handle a miniature being placed on the landing and leaves most of the room open for play. The angled staircase will continue all the way up to the top floor with alternating corners being used at each level. In the 3rd floor photo above, the next landing will be in the bottom corner which should again leave most of the room playable. All stairs from here on up will be wooden.
The rest of the time was spent on fireplace details and installation. Most fireplaces have now been glued into place:

Well, sorry for the quality of some of the photos. They were all just quick snaps with my phone. When the entire building is 'finished' and all touch-ups are done and the floors cleaned up, I'll be re-taking all of the pictures with proper lighting and a proper camera. Hopefully these at least give a general idea of where I'm at with things.
This week is looking pretty busy with non-hobby related activities so my time will be even more limited than usual, but I still plan to glue the slate on the corner roof section and hopefully get the 4th floor foam board glued together.
