Thanks for the tips Enygma23 - the stain I'm currently using definitely looks much thinner than the Liquitex stuff I used to use. I've tried going over some of the streaks again with a second coat, but they seem to repel the stain sort of like areas which have been glued do which is what concerns me. Both the Liquitex and the new stuff (MinWax) are water-based so maybe I need to consider oil-based. I don't, however, want it to get much darker... I'm going to try touching up the worst of the light streaks by brushing on some of the Liquitex stain (of which I have just a little left) to see how that turns out. I do plan to lightly drybursh the floor so perhaps that will make things look better.

I used about half of a 3lb bag for the base. Normally I use it to just fill in gaps between blocks. For smaller projects, a bag of this stuff goes a long way and it keeps for many years.
