I love this thread. I enjoy all your updates Skow. Keep in mind that balsa absorbs the varnish way more then normal wood. It is almost like it is spongy. Esp if you use a water based varnish. As well varnish seems to be getting made thinner and thinner lately. If you do not like the results add a second coat. When I work with varnish and Balsa wood I normally lay a water based varnish coat first, then a normal varnish. I found that the water based coat soaks up better in the wood then the normal varnish does. This allows me to seal the wood alittle better then allows the normal varnish to do its job.

Can you post a link to the second product you used to spackle the insulation? I have never heard of it before.
