When I played WH, we used terrain pieces that provided elevation, like hills. Then a forest shape that removable trees. Structures like your house were perfect for immovable objects that block
LOS. The field is nice because there isn't anything to impede movement while the wall provides cover. We used a few stand alone short rock fences, randomly placed rock outcroppings that provided a cliff on one side and a hill to move up and down on the back side ( great place to drop a High Elf Bolt Thrower). Ruined buildings work great for providing taller walls to hide behind and stage units. Once upon a time, I was planning a swamp board. It was going to be painted black. The entire board was swamp. Then I was going to build sections of land that i could move around and link with bridges, narrow paths. There was going to be a church and a bell-tower. A mine to one side and a grave yard on a hill top. Kind of a spooky thing. The best terrain for those games though provides elevation in one way or another. We used to mix and match it up a bunch. Large hill A has two trees in the middle. A pond has a sprawling forest right next to it. That kind of thing.
