I went a relatively small-but-cheap route which cost more than I intended. I picked up a medium sized vacuum dessicator for around $80 (
http://www.2spi.com/catalog/supp/desi3.shtml),
a vacuum pump off of eBay for around $100, a vacuum gauge for about $20, and various tubing and fittings. Probably $200-250 all told.
In retrospect, I could have gotten out for a good deal cheaper, I think ... but what I have works for degassing rubbers safely enough. The pump and the chamber are really the expensive parts, though there are cheaper alternatives on both. Check around the forums here, I know there are some stickied posts on better degassing rigs done on the cheap.
