Dave,

First, let me say that I am very happy to hear that your casts are coming out 'very nicely'. I use the 2.75:1 ratio as I find it easier to calculate in my head. Doubling 2.75 is very easy, as you get nice 'simple' numbers. 2:5.5, 3:8.25, etc

Certainly. Actually, I will answer both questions at once.

Normally I measure out 2 oz's of water before I cast. Instead, I measure out 1.95 oz's of water, and add 0.05 oz's of black paint. I put the water in my mixing cup, add the paint, and then mix the too thoroughly. Once that is done, I add my 5.5 oz's of Hydrostone to the mix, let the plaster soak for about 1 minute, and then mix the plaster for roughly 2 minutes. This gets the colored water mixed into the plaster quite extensively. I get a 'light gray' color out of the plaster this way.

So, yes, I am replacing some of the water with paint, or adding additional plaster if I forget to 'remove' water to compensate for the paint.
