If all you're going for is round towers then I'd say use dowels. They're already round and you can cut them to length. Much more consistent, much less work.

Obviously I'll say that once you have the molds you'll find about a bazillion other projects to use them on but right now you're focused on one particular build and using the molds for a portion of it. In that case complete the build using dowels and then consider the diversity that can be done using the molds.

Never, ever, ever use Plaster of Paris for a build you want to use. You're looking at it from the 'easier to modify after casting' aspect but it would be terrible for one elbow to take out 1/3 of your hard work. And that's what can happen with PoP. It isn't just that it's softer, it's that your building will self-destruct. Honestly.

I use Hydrostone, which is cheaper than MM but not as strong. Gypsum Solutions will let you find a local dealer. I think you will find the price much more in your range.

The Dungeon Builder is a great mold in that you really can use it to build a dungeon. The other molds in that range are great (yes, I have them) but overall for just starting out that one is one of the recommended molds. Of course, if you buy five at the same time you get the price break. That's how we all get suckered into buying more molds.

You'll have to post pictures of your build as you work on it. Don't wait until you're finished - we love to see things progress.

And welcome to the addiction!
