I want to build the fountain described in Tips and Tricks 6. What size foam, length and width, should I use? Or, what is the diameter of the fountain?

Without looking at the piucture and building instructions, I'm assuming that it uses the 4" round tower mold. That would place the outer diameter of
the fountain basin at 4", meaning you need a base at least that big, plus whatever the surrounding details call for.

May I have an answer from someone who knows what the problem is?

I don't have any precise measurements I'm afraid, but it isn't too hard to extrapolate from the images.
The center ring of blocks has a outside diameter of 3". Judging by the image, there would be room for another one of those rings alongside it, so it is likely to be just over 9" wide (diameter). So foam wise, it is better to be on the safe side and go with 12"x12", because you'll likely want sloped edges and such, that'd probably be the minimum size you should consider. |

Here's my version of it:
Any by counting (it's early and pre-caffeine for me) I based it on a 9 x 9 base. EDIT - I noticed this was a WIP because I didn't have any water yet. Here's a prettier one.

Thanks for your answer Rastl, you did a good job on your fountain.

Thanks.
A couple things I would do differently if I were building this fountain again are: Pour a very thin layer of plaster into the fountain after it's been sealed and before I put in water. I don't like how the same floor tiles show under the water as around the fountain. Follow the instructions and make the center section a little taller. It looks a little stubby since I didn't add that extra height. Other than that it went together quite well. If you're doing decorative painting like I did on the red granite I recommend painting before assembling. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches but my excuse is that I decided to do the decorative work after I made the piece. |
