I know a hair dryer is required, but can anyone tell me when in the curing process is the optimal time to do this? And how far away should I hold the hair dryer from the surface? This will be probably no more than 1/4" inch deep and two inches across all the way across the board (think a small creek). Thanks!

If you make the ripples too early in the curing process, they will just level back out. If you wait too long, it gets real stringy and doesn't work well either. I believe others have had sucess using a 5 minute epoxy to make the ripples on top of the Envirotex. And as for the hairdryer, it's the CO2 that bursts the bubbles, not the heat, so it is not required (but I have found that it does help) Gently blowing on it will work if you do not use a hairdryer. Hope this helps.

Posts: 1278 (04/28/09 12:22:47) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I use a clear 5 min epoxy to create ripples on top of the Envirotex lite. Envirotex lite takes way too long to dry to create realistic looking ripples in the surface. Here's a test piece I did for a beach gaming table. It is 6" square. The ripples were done by using a wooden craft stick (Popsicle stick) to move the epoxy around in a ripple pattern. I did the epoxy in sections and I didn't quite get them to mix together flawlessly but overall I'm happy with the result. Hope it helps. Itar

I know that it's the CO2 that gets the bubbles. Somebody told me the hair dryer would produce the heat that would cause the ripples. Perhaps they didn't know what they were talking about? In any case, the 5-minute epoxy thing looks just fine for what I want, so I will heed the collective wisdom and go with that. Hi Rastl, your warning is welcome, but a little late. I tend to let my hair get a little shaggy, and already got it in the Envirotex the last time I used it! Oh well, thanks anyway! Thanks everybody!

The advice was to hold a bare lightbulb over the plastic (don't know what type of poured plastic it was back in the early 70s) to get ripples. I only read about it, so I don't know if it worked (or whether the same thing would work with modern poured plastic)
