Denstone Ratios?

I just got my first three Hirst Molds, and a 50lb box of Denstone White.

My first pour, I used mold 201, and eyeballed water and denstone until I was happy. This worked great.

My second and third pours, I used molds 43, 45, and 201. I am having issues with the molds separating into half-full of plaster, half water. It's also a fairly brittle mix. Some pieces are usable, others are rubble

Square Ends vs Staggered Ends

I'm just getting ready to start my dungeon build and I have a quandary. I'm considering making my walls staggered at the ends so they interlock with each other but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this. It looks like a good idea to me as it will help hold the walls in place as well as conceal the seams between wall sections, but I'm wondering if it will make them difficult to build and/or use on the table. Has anyone tried this?

Problems With Air Bubbles - Help Wanted!

Hi guys,

I got my first Hirst Art molds a few weeks ago and have started casting. Before doing so I washed the molds out to get rid of the talc. After that I put them in some water with Jet Dry and used a toothpick to get all the bubbles off the surface.

My first few casts were pretty good but my most recent ones had a lot of air bubbles so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

I'm spraying the molds with some Jet Dry water before each cast and using...

Earlier I did some books and this weekend I did a book case.
I have mixed feelings about this one. I go from 'I hate it' to 'I like it' and I haven't settled on one yet. Right now I'm leaning towards offering this one in my shop, but by tomorrow I may have decided I hate it again and want to redo it. My biggest problem with it is that some of the texture deeper into the piece than others. I guess it's not really a big deal but it kind of bugs me a bit....

Bell Tower Minis...

Does anyone know the scale of the miniatures Bruce used in the examples for the Bell Tower kit? I got a bunch of Reaper minis, and they're too large to fit in the alcoves. I forget the size, but here's one of them anyway:

The Bell Tower minis appear to be 2 inches or less, and the guy in the link above dwarfs the alcove.

Anyone tried using Noodler's Ink ( http://noodlersink.com/ ) on your figures or pieces? If so, what were the results?

The reason I'm posting this is because GW stopped making its inks some time ago, and my stock of Yellow Ink is slowly running out. I'm sure others have the same issues- I know some people have been stockpiling Chestnut Ink and Flesh Wash for similar reasons. If anyone knows of a better source, please...

Moving - What to do with builds and supplies

My poor dehydrator that I had been using finally bit the dust a couple months ago. Loved the design of it, since it worked well for drying my blocks. Yesterday, I bought a new one and right away I noticed a problem with it. The holes on the trays are a lot bigger than the old one, so now I'm worried about the smaller pieces ( like the flame on 45) dropping through when I put my casts on it. Magnetic Paint

I was buying glue today at the local hardware store and came across a RustOleum magnetic paint product.

Has anyone tried to use this? I was wondering how strong of a magnetic surface it created. I'm thinking of putting magnets on the bottoms of arena wall pieces to keep them from shifting.

Ok, So I have finished my first disaster (er,I mean project) and my question is should I paint (prime) it with black paint or paint with glue, then black paint?

my modular dungeon

My first dungeon, and probably my first real project, done up dwarven forge style, but with hirst pieces. I put together a couple of custom molds to help me produce it in not such an achingly long amount of time.

Well I just got my first 4 molds... today. I got 40,60,64 and 84 and I am the happiest person alive (mom got me a present )

I did pour 60 and 64 tonight twice and I have to say that these are more detail than I could believe. I did my own molds scratch and I must say this is 100 times better.
